What is Gua sha? And why should you use it!

A new invention on TikTok has gone viral for its amazing benefits and results seen from other people. Except the GAG is that gua sha has been around for at least 700 years in Chinese medicine. Gua sha is traditional Chinese healing method that uses a tool to glide across the skin usually with a medium of some sort. Gua sha is so beneficial to for so many reasons from a massage therapist point of view. It is really good for blood flow and de-puffing. According to Alexandra Benisek in "Are there Health Benefits to Gua Sha?", gua sha can be helpful for some conditions including: Hepatitis B, Migraines, tourettes syndrome, neck pain, perimenopausal symptoms, and breast fullness. I think gua sha could be become very popular amongst the massage industry for clients to do incorporate self massage into their routines when they are not able to come in for a massage. I would like to incorporate gua sha in my practice (TheMassageHouse) during sessions. When you come in for a full body massage, that would include the face as well. If the client asks for it, then we can gua sha the face as long as there are no contraindications. What do you think? Gua sha recently got recognized on TikTok during quarantine for being a great tool to shape and sculpt the face. I think it is so great that Chinese healing methods are being more recognized because they are truly so beautiful and fascinating to learn and apply to my daily life. I think in the near future TheMassageHouse will have services offered including gua sha! Keep your eyes peeled.😳
